We all live in an electronic world and trekking outdoors nowadays involves more electronic devices than ever before for most of us. I am a technology junkie myself and love all the latest cool gadgets, so power is important to me. With phones, GPS, SOS devices, iPADs, Cameras, etc. it is increasing more important for many people to carry a renewable power source.  The PowerAdd Apollo Pro boasts one of the largest battery capacities at 23,000mAh internal battery, with a built in solar panel for re-charging as well as AC Adapter charging.

Specifications

--Battery-Type: Li-Polymer battery cells with solar panel
--Capacity: 23000mAh/85Wh
--Input: 15-20V 1.2A
--Output: 1 x USB 5V 2.1A + 1 x DC12V/16V/19V 3A
--Solar Charger: 15V 230mA (max)
--Size: 8.85x4.92x0.86 inches
--Weight: 1.44 lbs

In our tests it took about 42 hours using solar power to fully charge which isn’t that bad considering the battery charge capacity it offers. When we tested it against average smartphone it charged them 7-8 times before running out of juice, this was very nice to have especially on extended trips. However at 1.44Lbs it is not exactly ultra light, we found this was best for short range backpacking or camp grounds, we keep one in our vehicle for emergency power use for video equipment, laptops, and our cell phones.

Our biggest concern is the complaint from several buyers that their units did not work properly on arrival. This can sometimes happen with any electronic product however we score this one slightly lower because of the number of complaints. (we purchased 5 units however and all functioned properly).

One other thing I’ve noticed recently since writing this article is that after being fully charge it doesn’t seem to be holding the charge, every 7-8 days of not being used it is completely drained. This could be a problem with this particular item, I guess this will give me a chance to check out there warranty replacement and their customer service.
